Our Submission on Cultured Quail as a Novel Meat

Food Standards Australia and New Zealand have assessed an application made by Vow Group Pty Ltd to permit the use of cultured quail cells made with embryonic fibroblasts originating from Coturnix japonica (Japanese quail), as a novel food ingredient in food products to be marketed and sold in Australia and New Zealand.

They invited submissions from the public to assist them with making a decision on changes that will need to be made to food standards to allow this.

The Animal Justice Party contributed a 19-page submission to this consultation.
