2024 AJP National Conference

We are thrilled to announce the 2024 National Conference – "Inspiring Animal Advocacy".

This is a members-only weekend, and will be held online so our members from all across the country can attend!

This year's National Conference, "Inspiring Animal Advocacy", takes us to the core of our mission for animals. Advocacy is a crucial stream through which we secure legislative and societal change. You will hear from change-makers at a local, state, federal and even global level, and learn the why and how of driving this change for animals.

You will come away from this event inspired and empowered, with a range of tools under your belt to engage in meaningful animal advocacy through all streams - whether it be through political, community-driven, activist or social spheres.

We'll dive deep into the special place that politics holds in securing change - where the political merges with the social, where the legislative is crucial to propel community-driven movements, and ultimately why it is so important that advocates from all fields come together for our united cause: the animals.

The Program

Day 1 - Saturday, 9th November

The first day will take us through a diverse program covering advocacy from a 'campaigns' perspective.

We'll deep dive into select animal-driven campaigns, initiated largely at a grassroots level, including protecting a local grey-headed flying fox colony, standing up for dingoes in Western Australia, critical kangaroo campaigns and virtual fencing to save our previous wildlife.

You will learn how change is created at a local level, and what is needed to bring communities together in the fight for animal protection.

Later in the day, we will hear from our elected representatives, including MP Emma Hurst (NSW) and MP Georgie Purcell (VIC). You'll hear updates on the wins coming from our MPs and Councillors in State Parliament and Local Government, and have the opportunity to ask questions about their work.

Day 2 - Sunday, 10th November

Day 2 is focussed on training. We want to give you the resources to upskill, giving you confidence to put in practice all you have learned in the animal advocacy space. With workshops on submission-writing (so you can make your voice heard at a Parliamentary level) and campaign strategy and development, this will be a fantastic opportunity to hone your skills and feel equipped to join an active campaign movement.

We'll also hear from our State Branches across Australia - learning what they have achieved over the last 12 months, including a chance to ask questions

Finally, we will hold the annual Delegates Debate (topic TBC) and the Animal Justice Party AGM - a chance to rigorously debate policy, and hear from the Board of Directors on the successes and learnings from 2024.
