The Animal Justice Party (AJP) is opposed to rodeos and the use of animals for sport or entertainment (see our Animals in Entertainment Policy).
Specifically, we do not believe that rodeos can be safely regulated and promote non-violent alternatives free from animal exploitation.
Rodeo legislation varies from state to state. Queensland is somewhat behind other states in still allowing calf roping with no restrictions, it is also the state with the most rodeos, hence it rates a special mention in Key Objective 3 below.
Key Objectives
- An immediate ban on “rope and tie”.
- A rapid phase out of all rodeos.
- Increase funding for cruelty-free community sporting events in rural Queensland.
