Animal Justice Party

2022 National Conference

15–16 October

Sydney + Online

“Building political power for animals, people and planet”

EXCLUSIVE: Join us for an inspiring, members-only weekend learning from animal rights politicians, activists and thinkers from around the world!

With the option to attend live in Sydney or livestream it all online, be part of the action as we bring you the latest from the absolute forefront of the global movement to build political power for animals, people and the planet!

Our program contains politics, thought leaders, activism, workshops and more (and if you join us in person, you will also get to enjoy very fancy, all-day, delicious vegan catering!)

Both online attendees and in-person attendees will receive full recordings of all sessions plus an electronic copy of Esther Ouwehand's book 'A plague on both our houses: how animal exploitation is driving pandemics and what to do next'. Esther is the leader of the Dutch Party for the Animals.

POLITICS

We’ll be hearing from the leader of the world’s most successful animal rights party, Esther Ouwehand of the Dutch Party for the Animals (PvDD). Now in their 20th year, the Dutch Party for the Animals holds six of the 150 seats in the Netherlands’ House of Representatives and has 80 elected members at national, regional and local levels, as well as a member in the European Parliament! Esther will be sharing with us the keys to their growth and success!

From Spain, Ana María Béjar, one of the Directors of the Animalist Party Against Mistreatment of Animals (PACMA) will be sharing their groundbreaking work changing the entrenched violence in their culture around bullfighting and hunting. This theme hits very close to home here in Australia and there’s a lot for us to learn!

And of course, our own elected Animal Justice Party representatives will be giving you an exclusive insight into the work they’ve been doing and an insider look at being an animal rights politician here in Australia! You’ll be hearing from MP Andy Meddick (Vic), Emma Hurst (NSW), MP Mark Pearson (NSW), Councillor Julie Sloan (VIC) and Councillor Matt Stellino (NSW) – each in their own special, individual session just for members.

THOUGHT LEADERS

From the world of thought leaders, New York University’s Associate Professor Jeff Sebo (Clinical Associate Professor – Environmental Studies; Affiliated Professor – Bioethics, Medical Ethics, Philosophy, and Law; Director of the Animal Studies M.A. Program; Director of the Mind, Ethics, and Policy Program) will be giving us a special presentation about farming insects – and why that’s a wrong turn for humanity. In a special presentation just for the Animal Justice Party, he’ll be talking insect sentience, insect suffering, and the greenwashing of industries who seek to exploit them for food. We’ll also learn about who has the most to gain from exploiting them (hint: animal agribusiness!)

From the University of Queensland, Professor Greg Marston will be giving us a special presentation about universal basic income. We’ve all heard that universal basic income could be good for people, but Greg will reveal how it doesn’t stop there – universal basic income would also benefit animals and the planet!

We’ll also be joined by CEO Paul Bevan (Magic Valley) on the future of cultured meat – or, as he puts it, the future of meat! (It’s cultured.)

ADVOCATES AND ACTIVISM

We have an all-star line-up joining us from the world of activism, including renowned founder of The Save Movement, Anita Krajnc, as well as expert outreacher, debater and social media influencer Earthling Ed.

From Australia, animal law expert Dr Meg Good will give us an insight into the work of powerful new mega-group Alliance for Animals – formed by a coalition of Australian animal protection organisations such as Animals Australia and Voiceless. She’ll share how they’re making an impact for animals in the political sphere.

Plus, more to be announced!
